FedEx Tracking Statuses Explained
When you track a FedEx package, you will see one of the following delivery statuses. Each status indicates a different stage in the shipping process.
Info Received
The shipping label has been created and FedEx has received the shipment information. The package has not yet been picked up.
In Transit
Your package is on its way. It is moving through the FedEx network and may pass through multiple sorting facilities.
Out for Delivery
Your package has arrived at the local delivery facility and is on the delivery vehicle. It will be delivered today.
Delivered
Your package has been successfully delivered to the destination address.
Exception
An unexpected issue has occurred during delivery. This could include a failed attempt, customs hold, or incorrect address.
Expired
Tracking information is no longer available. This typically happens after 30 to 120 days.
Common FedEx Tracking Problems
Having trouble with your FedEx tracking? Here are the most common issues and how to resolve them.
Tracking number not found
FedEx tracking numbers may take up to 24 hours to appear in the system after a label is created. Verify you entered the correct number with no spaces.
Package stuck at 'In Transit'
This usually means the package is moving between facilities. During peak seasons, transit times may be longer than usual. If no update for 5+ days, contact FedEx.
Delivery exception
Common causes include incorrect address, business closed, weather delays, or nobody available to sign. Check the exception details and contact FedEx or the shipper.
Package marked delivered but not received
Check around your property, with neighbors, and building management. FedEx drivers sometimes leave packages in safe locations. If not found within 24 hours, file a claim.
FedEx International Shipping & Customs
For international shipments, FedEx handles customs brokerage. Packages may be held at customs for inspection, and duties/taxes may apply. Commercial invoices are required for non-document shipments. FedEx provides proactive customs clearance notifications.
Shipping Restrictions
FedEx prohibits shipping dangerous goods without proper authorization, firearms, live animals (with limited exceptions), perishable foods without FedEx Custom Critical, and items exceeding 150 lbs for Express or 150 lbs for Ground per package.
